Semi-Polishing a Glass Blank
This is the third step in the beveling process of a glass blank. This is achieved with a cork wheel and a slurry of pumice and water. Most bevelers refer to this as "corking". The traditional wheels were made of soft woods (spruce, willow) and this step was referred to as "white wheeling".
Cork wheels are mounted on a horizontal shaft. They range is size from only a few inches to as large as 42" inches in diameter and 3" to 5" in width.
A slurry of pumice and water is applied to the cork wheel using a bristle type brush and the surface of the glass being beveled is semi-polished.
This step leaves the beveled surface of the glass blank semi-opaque and dull.
