The second step in beveling involves the further defining of the beveled surface. This is achieved by the process of holding the glass blank against "stones" of different sizes.

In this step, the beveled surface of the glass blank is finished to the final size. Many consider this step as the "crux" of the whole process. The beveled surface, after proper smoothing will appear "satin", and should have all imperfections from the "roughing" process removed.

The "stones" used are either natural or manufactured. Only water is required for cooling of glass.

A large stone, mounted on a vertical shaft, with a steep taper, is used to smooth all straight and outside curves of the glass blank. Inside curves are smoothed on varying sizes of stones mounted on a horizontal shaft.
